The VMFA celebrated its 75h anniversary in 2011, featuring the blockbuster exhibit "Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris" Exhibition, attracting 229,729 visitors in three months' time. The VMFA just celebrated completion of a 134,000 expansion on May 1, 2010, and with a permanent collection of more than 22,000 items spanning 5,000 years, the VMFA is recognized as one of America's top museums.
The VMFA features two of the museum district's restaurants, the Best Café and Amuse. The Best Café
features lite fare, sandwiches, and salads, along with a wine bar. Amuse is a destination in itself, a chic restaurant on the third floor overlooking the museum's sculpture garden, featuring an eclectic mix of Virginia-sourced specialties. Both the Best Café and Amuse serve lunch daily and dinner on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition, the Best Café has a wine bar daily from 10 am to 4 pm.
This spectacular museum is just 1/2 mile from Maury Place at Monument, making our inn a perfect place to stay while visiting one of these great exhibits. The museum is also next door to another great visitor attraction, the Virginia Historical Society museum, and within walking distance to Carytown shopping, the Virginia Architectural Museum, and many great restaurants. |
