Richmond, Virginia bed and breakfast Maury Place at Monument is within walking distance of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), now celebrating its 75th anniversary. The VMFA has just closed its special exhibition "Fabergé Revealed", featuring the largest collection of Fabergé in the United States, with over 500 items of the former Russian Imperial Family. This special exhibition was be in addition to the VMFA's permanent Fabergé collection, one of the finest in the U.S., including the largest collection of Imperial Easter Eggs outside of Russia.

VMFA's current major exhibit is Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb, featuring more than 100 objects from the internationally renowned Egyptian collection of the British Museum. The exhibition features the coffin and mummy of Nesperennub, a temple priest who lived 3,000 years ago. Visitors see a 3-D film showing the technology used to peer beneath the mummy's wrappings, as well as a variety of Egyptian artifacts from the British Museum.

Visitors to the museum enter an all new entrance off the Boulevard, walking into the expansive and glass-enclosed McGlothlan Wing. The newly constructed McGlothlan Wing features spectacular architecture and wonderful views of the city and museum sculpture garden, while gracefully complimenting the original museum building. Visitors will be able to enjoy a meal at the new "Best Cafe" or "aMuse Restaurant", or take advantage of the new expanded museum shop. Beginning May 1, visitors will also welcome another new feature to the museum-- general admission will always be free!

The VMFA began its anniversary year with the blockbuster exhibit "Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris" Exhibition, the most important showing in VMFA's history, attracting 229,729 visitors in three months' time. The VMFA just celebrated completion of a 134,000 expansion on May 1, 2010, and with a permanent collection of more than 22,000 items spanning 5,000 years, the VMFA is recognized as one of America's top museums.

The VMFA features two of the museum district's restaurants, the Best Café and Amuse. The Best Café features lite fare, sandwiches, and salads, along with a wine bar. Amuse is a destination in itself, a chic restaurant on the third floor overlooking the museum's sculpture garden, featuring an eclectic mix of Virginia-sourced specialties. Both the Best Café and Amuse serve lunch daily and dinner on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition, the Best Café has a wine bar daily from 10 am to 4 pm.


This spectacular museum is just 1/2 mile from Maury Place at Monument, making our inn a perfect place to stay while visiting one of these great exhibits. The museum is also next door to another great visitor attraction, the Virginia Historical Society museum, and within walking distance to Carytown shopping, the Virginia Architectural Museum, and many great restaurants.
