Maury Place at Monument is proud to exclusively offer Virginia wine as our complimentary wine for guests. Our nation's fifth largest wine producer, Virginia is considered one of the top wine regions in the world to visit now. Within a short drive from Maury Place are eight of our popular wineries, most open seven days a week for tours and tastings, all of the family owned, and a few with important distinction. Closest to Richmond are James River Cellars, producing 13 grape varieties, and Woodland Vineyards, Virginia’s smallest farm winery. Further west are Grayhaven Winery and Cooper Vineyards . North of Richmond is Virginia’s only Native American Indian vineyard, the Mattaponi Winery, and the Lake Anna Winery just west of Mattaponi. Just east of us is New Kent Winery, and east of Williamsburg (about an hour’s drive from here) is Williamsburg Winery, which is Virginia’s largest.

Barboursville Winery

Barboursville Winery has long been one of Virginia's most highly regarded vineyards. Located approximately an hour west of Maury Place, Barboursville vineyards is a favorite of visitors to Virginia, who enjoy their wide selection of wines, wonderful tasting room, and Palladio, its world class restaurant. We feature the Barboursville Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Rosé, and Brut Sparkling Wine at Maury Place. Barboursville is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2011.

Veritas Winery

The Veritas Vineyard on Afton Mountain is one of Virginia's most beautiful wineries to visit, where you can sit outside the tasting room and enjoy great views of the mountain scenery. Originally known for their white wines, Veritas has impressed us in recent years with their red wines, such as their Cabernet Franc. Currently we feature the Veritas Red Star wine, a mix of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Chambourcin.

James River Cellars

We have served two wines from our closest vineyard, the James River Cellars Winery- their Chardonnay and Chardonel. The Chardonnay is a crisp and fresh wine with apple and pear aromas, good to sip or with food. The Chardonel has a very pleasing full and fruity taste, a really great wine for all occasions. James River Cellars is a family owned winery offering a full selection of red and white varietals, including a couple of really nice dessert wines. The winery is open for tasting seven days a week, Sunday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. James River Cellars is only 12 miles north of Maury Place-- click here for a map and directions.

Wine Shops

Right here in the City are several shops and restaurants specializing in local wines. River City Cellars in Carytown offers tastings and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. And the selections at Wine Lovers, Strawberry Street Vineyard, Belle Cuisine, Private Stock Cigar & Wine, Once Upon a Vine, Barrel Thief Wine Shop & Café and The Wine Cellar are sure to please even the most discriminating oenophiles.

Wine Bars

There are also two wine bars within walking distance of Maury Place at Monument, both located in Carytown. The Secco Wine Bar, owned by the proprietors of River City Cellars, offers a great wine selection and chic atmosphere, offering an appetizer / light dinner menu. Amour Wine Bistro features wine from a different region in Europe each month, paired with a French menu.

Special Richmond wine tasting events such as the James River Wine Festival (April) and Carytown Wine Festival (October) feature the best wines Virginia has to offer. Somewhere, most anytime, there’s a wine festival nearby.
