Maury Place at Monument is the perfect lodging accommodation for runners and spectators of the Richmond Marathon, which runs right by our bed and breakfast just before mile three of the race. The 2011 race featured an all-time record of 17,073 runners, with 4,922 participating in the marathon and 7,493 in the half marathon. The event also features an 8k race. A new course record was set by the men's winner, Kenya's Kennedy Kemei, who ran the marathon in 2:13:45. The 2012 Richmond Marathon will run Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Considered one of the country's friendliest and most scenic marathons, the Richmond race was named a "Must Do" run in 2005 and 2009 by Runner's World Magazine. The course passes through many of the most interesting parts of the city, including the statues of Monument Avenue, Riverside Drive, and Richmond's north side, with runners crossing the James River twice. Maury Place innkeeper Mac ran the marathon in 1999 and says "the race is really well organized to make it enjoyable for participants of all levels, and there are fans cheering the runners all along the course."
