Located four miles from the Richmond International Raceway (RIR), Richmond VA bed and breakfast Maury Place at Monument is the perfect lodging for NASCAR fans seeking luxury accommodations. The Richmond International Raceway is a 3/4 mile track hosting the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series. One of the few racetracks to run all of its races under the lights, RIR sold out 33 consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races through September 2008, the streak ending because of Tropical Storm Hanna and the economic downturn. Racing began at the site in 1946, two years before the founding of NASCAR, with a dirt track race at what was then called Strawberry Hill Speedway.
